Obligation
-
Amount of money to be paid as support by the
non-custodial parent and the way it is to be
paid.

Obligation Status
-
The status of a non-custodial parent's
obligation. For example, current support to the
custodial parent may be 'active', while arrears
may be 'closed'.

Obligee
-
The person, state, or political subdivision to
whom a duty of support is owed (also referred to
as the custodial party when the money is owed to
the party who resides with the child).

Obligor
-
The person owing the duty of support (also
referred to as the non-custodial parent).

Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE)
-
The federal agency within the Administration for
Children and Families in the Department of Health
and Human Services that is responsible for the
administration of the child support program.

Offset
-
Amount of money intercepted from a parent's State
or Federal income tax refund, or from an
administrative payment such as Federal retirement
benefits, in order to satisfy a child support
debt.

Order
-
A directive of a court or administrative
authority.

Order to Show Cause
-
A court order telling a person to appear in court
and to explain why a certain order should not be
entered.
