Intercepts a portion of state unemployment
payments owed to non-custodial parents to pay
their current and past-due child support.

Uniform Interstate Family Support Act (UIFSA)

A 1992 model law developed for states to pass to
replace the Uniform Reciprocal Enforcement of
Support Act (URESA) as the new interstate statute
to govern the establishment, enforcement, and
modification of child support orders and the
establishment of paternity in interstate cases.
The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity
Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA) mandates the
adoption of UIFSA and the 1996 amendments as
State law by 1/1/98.

Uniform Reciprocal Enforcement of Support Act
(URESA)

A uniform law which sets forth reciprocal
legislation concerning the enforcement of support
between the states.
